Danced till midnight on a whim
Painted streets with our sins
Sheltered from prideful eyes
Smiling in drowning tides
Affixed to that burning rim
Tell me what you told the wind
City of stars aligned that night
Stumbled into profound delight
Wiped away those misty tears
Always meeting on rickety piers
Held our tongues to save the truth
Did not last at the vermount
Night is old and stories told
Left alone for shallow roads
Failed to elude that summer night
Called it love at first sight

This nation was built on foundation
Composed of more red than blue
Our founding fathers’ fight paved us a new light
Yet, this facade cannot hold for so long
For this fight was fought with not words, but with stones
This nation was built on foundation
Welded by sticks, bones, and stones
The ground shakes, aches, and takes shape
It molds and unfolds, which leaves a wisdom enclosed
